Electrical Transformer Failure
This video is an example of the violent nature of an electrical transformer failure. Many times when
transformers fail, adjacent equipment, other transformers or combustibles can be seriously affected by
the explosion and fire.
Fire barrier systems mitigate the collateral damage by confining the fire and blast
effects to the affected transformer instead of allowing the fire to spread to adjacent areas. Moreover,
combining a fire barrier system with an affective oil containment design will allow the owner to comply
with NFPA-850 (Recommended Practice for Fire Protection for Electrical Generating Plants and High Voltage
Direct Current Converter Stations) and reduce the risk of service disruption and limit the negative environmental impact.
