Low Radiation Modular Fire and Blast Barriers Systems (MFBBS) are tested for up to 6 hours of fire resistance in accordance with ASTM E-119. The barrier panel material used is lightweight as well as impact resistant, waterproof, non-combustible and slim. The prefabricated modular system is easy and quick to install and remove for access.
Design, engineer, fabricate and deliver 6 large Modular Fire and Blast Barriers at 600 square feet each and 6 smaller Modular Fire and Blast Barriers at 75 square feet each to augment existing cast-in-place concrete barriers. This was the most technically acceptable and cost effective methodology to protect against spread of a catastrophic fire in case one of the transformers failed and lost the 50,000 gallons of cooling oil from the new, much larger 500 MW transformers that are replacing the obsolete, smaller existing transformers.
This plant converts DC to AC and AC to DC current in order to transmit power to and from the Great Northwest to Southern California. As we were told the transformers manufactured for this plant are the largest in the world. Erection was performed by a local contractor under contract with ABB. Critical Systems, LLC supplied three dimensional erection drawings to help facilitate easy field erection of the multiple MFBBS. Every piece was marked to match pieces labeled on the drawings.
This project commenced for Critical Systems, LLC in mid February of 2004 and delivered in mid April 2004. Consequently LADWP requested we provide an additional MFBS for another location in the plant.
